Fomo is a crypto trading app for iPhone and Android that also runs in a web browser at fomo.family. Like many fintech apps, it gives new users a better deal when they join through someone else’s referral, but the benefit depends on timing, and the prompt is easy to skip. This guide covers where the referral code goes, what it changes, and how to confirm it is active.
What a referral code does on Fomo
A referral code on Fomo is simply another user’s username. Joining with one cuts Fomo’s fee on a standard trade from 0.50% to 0.45%. That is a 10% reduction of the fee itself, and it is the same with any real code.
Some code owners also pass back part of what Fomo pays them for referrals. With the code DEAL, for example, the code owner returns 12.5% of the Fomo fees the user pays, in USDC, so the net cost is about 0.39% per standard trade. A fuller explanation of that code, including its cashback rules, is in this Fomo app referral code guide.
Where the app asks for the code
Fomo’s help center says a referral code can be applied until the first trade. The code can go on in three ways:
- iPhone and Android: sign-up uses an Apple ID or a Google account. If no referrer is on the account and no trade has been made, the app shows a code box at login. Typing the code there attaches it.
- Invite link: opening a link such as fomo.family/r/deal before signing up attaches the code with no typing at all.
- Web app: visiting the invite link in the browser, then logging in at fomo.family, applies the code on its own.
After the first trade there is no screen for adding a code, and a referrer can’t be changed once it is recorded. Anyone setting up the app should add the code before doing anything else.
How to check it worked
The quickest check uses the trade preview, before any money moves:
- Open the buy screen of any token.
- Enter an amount of at least 190 USDC.
- Open the trade details and look at Fomo’s fee.
A fee of 0.45% means a referrer is on the account; 0.50% means there isn’t one. Users who see 0.50% and haven’t traded can log out, log back in and enter the code when asked. Users who opened an invite link at sign-up but still see 0.50% can contact Fomo support from the Portfolio tab, through the gear icon, then Help and Support.
What the numbers look like
For someone who makes $24,000 of standard trades over a few months:
- Without a code: $120.00 in Fomo fees.
- With any code: $108.00.
- With DEAL, after the 12.5% cashback: $94.50.
Network fees are separate. Fomo covers gas on Solana; on other chains the network fee is added and shown before the trade is confirmed.
Common mistakes
- Making a first trade to “try the app” before adding a code. That closes the window.
- Signing in with a second Google or Apple account, which creates a new Fomo account without the code.
- Trusting pages that ask for a wallet connection or a seed phrase to “claim” a referral reward. Fomo’s invite links only open the sign-up page. The invite link itself, with the steps for each device, is covered in this Fomo invite code explainer.
Disclosure: not affiliated with Fomo. The owner of code DEAL earns Fomo’s referral commission and returns part of it as cashback. Fomo sets its fees and can change them. Not financial advice.
